Stormy Weather equals panting and drooling

Note the drool, on the tip of her tongue, that would soon be pulled downward by gravity.
Lady Flame said, "Mom, what the heck are you doing taking photos while Thor is taunting me?"
What were you doing at 4:30am? Sleeping? Geez...you are lucky. I was trying to console an inconsolable Lady Flame who looked like she was thinking about jumping out of the bedroom window (which I then partially closed) to escape the thunder and lightning.
Toby said, "Dude, what's the problem? Just go to sleep...zzzzzzzzzz..."
Toby...well...he slept through it all.

Play Date with Walter and the Half-Sibs

Here comes Walter! My goodness we love this goofy pup of a pitbull...
He came over for a visit on Sunday (along with our buddy, Rob), accompanied by Billy, Trouble, and Sugaree, and kept everyone entertained!
Walter had more energy than all our hounds combined! He gave Trouble a run for his money;-) All the hounds were muzzled as they get too excited and nippy. Walter, on the other hand, is quite the gentleman all the time.
Then, he enticed Lady Flame to join in the fray!
Walter was like the energizer bunny!
Of course, when you get Flame and Trouble together...they begin to focus their half-sib energy on each other.
And, then they start to fly around the yard. Yup...fly, Trouble...fly!
Whoo! The rough-housing starts up with Flame as the instigator... You see Toby barking his two-cents worth into the fray. He had to be on leash, but he did join in the excitement once in awhile...
Then, it was time to cool down...
And, really relax in the shade.
And, snooze away part of the afternoon.
Sugaree decided that the pool was very enticing, but Drew hadn't put any water in it yet! So, she patiently waited for it to be filled up to her liking;-)
Then, she settled in for a long, cool soak. Until...
Trouble descended upon her, and the magical bath moment disappeared, while her goofy brother decided to drink half the bath water!
Ultimately, Trouble won a turn at a soak in the pool.
And, then he became energized...and called for a "meeting of the minds!"
Round two began...and I asked myself, "What's better than a bunch of hounds romping and relaxing on a Sunday afternoon?" I can't think of a thing...except that we all missed Shannon...

Purty Pups

Lady Flame yawns from boredom of the photography
I just realized that I haven't photographed the dogs in a couple of months! I was outside photographing some flowers and took a few quick snapshots of the pups.
Lady Flame loves the new warmth of springtime. The air carries the lovely fragrance of the magnolia flowers that fills the backyard.
Flame is most relaxed when she is outdoors. She spends hours chilling out in the backyard.
And, then she gets a burst of energy and excavates her big dig!

Toby is our wide-eyed, sight-challenged wonder. We think he is the sweetest pup to grace the Earth.
Lady Flame is actually starting to initiate play with Toby (after 5 years together.) He got so excited that he raced through the yard and slammed into the magnolia tree. Hence the cut under his eye.

Lady Flame and Toby

Wonders will never cease. I think Flame was too tired to growl at Toby which allowed him to lay closer to her than ever before!
And, Toby is sooo spoiled and has us wrapped around his dew claw! We keep him toasty warm under his blankies!
Look at that cute face!

Almost End of Winter Play Date

We have a new photographer for Maine Nature Greyhounds, since I am out of commission for the next 6+ weeks!  Welcome Shannon! Shannon was kind enough to share her photos and video with us for the play date, which we got in before the snowfall started in earnest.
Drew tried to get the pups ramped up for a run-around.
Sugaree was excited to play, even though she has a corn on one of her feet as well as some muscle issues in her left rear leg. We all love her enthusiasm.

Popham Beach Pups

Oh my goodness...what a wonderful day we had! With the promise of warm weather, we headed for the beach. Toby is quite the backseat driver and was interested in where we were headed.
Because the fog was heavy, we actually planned our arrival for an hour after low tide in hopes of the fog lifting. There were already around 25 cars parked outside the park entrance (whose gates are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the winter season.)
As you can see, the fog had not lifted and was quite thick. In fact, Fox Island was enclosed in fog and we had no idea where it was!
So, we took some time to gaze out at the ocean. Toby had a tough time navigating (being blind does that to a pup), and he tended to use Lady Flame as a marker post by periodically leaning on her and bumping into her.
Flame was loving the ocean smells and sounds. The coolness of the weather (around 38F) caused her to want to run around on the beach.
Of course, since we haven't practiced any recall with her, she had to be kept on leash. But, that only slowed our pretty princess down a tiny bit. She was jazzed to the max!
Neither Drew nor I have knees that are fully functioning anymore, so we couldn't oblige Flame for very long. But, she had a grand time nonetheless.
After walking along the shore for awhile, we realized that we had no idea where we were. You see, the tide was coming in and it is easy to get cut off from the dune area if you wait too long. So, we reconnoitered inland a bit, over what looked like a windswept, alien landscape to get our bearings before heading toward the fort.
The waves were so pretty, and with this section of beach being narrow we found ourselves in the surf a bit.
Not wanting to get cut off on this beach, we headed back toward the park. In doing so, we saw Fox Island rising from the fog, sort of... It was almost noon, and the fog was taking it's time to burn off.
Check out all the cars along the road on our way home! We figured that there must have been at least 100 cars outside the gate, and we are so glad that we enjoyed the beach early. By the way, the temp. had risen to about 50F by the time we left the beach. Balmy for sure!

Marmaduke cartoon

Our Greyhound, Toby, can totally relate to Marmaduke for outdoor winter attire. Lady Flame, on the other hand, is a nudist at heart, no matter what the weather!

Sweet Toby and Lady Flame

He's a good pup...especially when he's asleep!
She loves the new squeaky shoe that Auntie Veronica gave them for Christmas!

Happy New Year!

It looks like Trouble got into the egg nog a bit early!
Here's to a laid back new year!
